So, the strangest thing I saw down here in South Carolina?
Fried okra chips. Yes, you read that right: Fried. Okra. Chips.
I saw them at my favourite grocery store here, Fresh Market. And even though I generally don’t eat fried things, I had to try these! Apparently, the okra is “vacuum fried”, which makes it less fatty than conventionally fried foods – and they are really delicious.
Perfectly crunchy, and you don’t have to worry about any sliminess! And did you know, okra is related to cotton, cocoa, and hibiscus (so I should have them with my hibiscus tea)?
These would definitely not be an every-day way to eat veggies, but are a really fun treat:
As my Dad said, when I was eating them in the car, I could have been doing a commercial:
“These are great!” *CRUNCH*
“And only lightly salted!” *CRAWWWWNCH*
Don’t worry, I’m getting the fried stuff out of my system now for Meghan’s “5 Days Healing with Everyday Superfoods” Challenge I’m starting on Sunday. I think I’m glad I can’t get these at home!
